Do You Have Any Cover Letter Advice?
Cover letters are truly optional but if you do include one, we would love ones that showcase personality over prestige.
What Do You Look For In A Submission?
Whether someone is writing an elegiac lyric poem or funny narrative review, we look for authors who take the craft seriously. Unnecessary flourishes of language, self-importance, giant egos without self-awareness, one-dimensional ideas, hard pass.
What Advice Do You Have For First-time Submitters?
Although we add a dose of humor to much of what we do, we take craft and reviewing seriously. Listen to our podcast, get to know the poets we admire, and send us your best. We're always looking for poets and reviewers we can toast wholeheartedly.
Do You Have A Favorite Unsolicited Submission Discovery Or Anecdote?
Once, I received a rejection from a journal via email but the submission wasn't removed in the system itself. I refused to move it myself and the next round of editors came in and accepted the piece. Don't say "no" to yourself.
Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Someone who has never said the phrase "lyric verve" or "syllabic swagger" in earnest.
