Since 1978 Tar River Poetry has advanced and celebrated all forms of poetry by writers working in English around the world. TRP offers a forum for emerging and established voices through our digital issues, welcoming poems that represent a diversity of interests and perspectives, and readers and writers. We encourage submissions from underrepresented peoples, and are committed to fostering literary community by showcasing work that provokes discussion, reflection, and new ideas.

We're open for submissions in January and September. TRP accepts all poetry good of its kind. Like everyone, we long to be astonished. Entranced. We love experiencing something new but, equally, enjoy reading a standard theme or form done well.

Who Is Your Ideal Reader?
Anyone tired of predigested images and ideas; anyone hungry for beauty and new experience. Poets and those just discovering poetry. Students, scientists, inmates, welders, artists, retirees. It's one of the reasons we're now free to read, online.
