Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Transition Magazine is historic literary and cultural magazine of the African Diaspora, born in Africa and bred in the US under the auspices of Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University. Once entirely focused on the post-independence Africa, Transition Magazine now explores all aspects of the global Black world. Once solely political and literary, we now have a strong focus on visual art and in fact bill ourselves as a literary and visual arts magazine. Our podcast Transition on the Wire most often focuses on Black artists and their art.
