Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
Staffed by previous winners who volunteer their time and skills, WWPH is a non-profit co-operative press reflecting both the diversity and the devotion to the literature of writers in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, the DMV. Since 1975, the press has published more than 100 volumes of poetry and prose. Through a blind-judged manuscript contest open to writers living in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, WWPH publishes one work of poetry (the Jean Feldman Poetry Prize), one of fiction (The WWPH Fiction Prize), and new in 2023, one work of creative nonfiction. are edited, produced, and promoted on the slenderest of budgets ($8,000-$9,000 annually) thanks to the commitment of the members of the cooperative, who juggle their volunteer work at the press with jobs, family, and writing. Our principal commitment is to discovering, encouraging, and promoting the very best of regional literature.
