Founded in 2017 by the Y in Australia, WhyNot is a youth-led digital platform amplifying the voices, ideas, and lived experiences of young people up to 30. We believe storytelling is a catalyst for social change - a way to challenge perspectives, build empathy, and drive action. Our editorial focus sits at the intersection of creativity, advocacy, and community. We publish authentic, thought-provoking, and diverse works across written, visual, audio, and video formats - from essays and opinion pieces to poetry, art, and interviews. Every story shared on WhyNot invites readers to see the world differently and act with intention. We actively platform underrepresented and emerging voices, particularly those from regional, First Nations, LGBTQIA+, and multicultural communities. Our editorial approach champions safe storytelling, youth development, and accessible pathways into Australia’s creative and literary industries. At its heart, WhyNot asks one question:
