Mission Statement / Editorial Focus
(a) river rising is an anthology of literary and artistic works
celebrating the women writers and artists of
Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville. (a) river rising is the first publication of Hestia Press, the newly established publishing arm of Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville. The founders include publisher Jennifer Wolfe; managing editor Nan Kavanaugh; designer Karen Kern; and contributing editors Jenny Anderson, Dakota Boyer, Alexa Horn, Janessa Martin, Amanda Millard, Nancy Murrey-Settle, and Sharon Scholl. Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville opened in Jacksonville in 2014 as an affiliate of the national group, Women Writing for (a) Change®, founded in Cincinnati by Mary Pierce Brosmer in 1991. We established our Foundation for Women Writing for (a) Change of Jacksonville, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit, in 2018 to support our outreach programs, including this anthology. Our mission is to nurture and celebrate the individual voice by facilitating supportive writing circles and encouraging people to craft more conscious lives through the art of writing and the practices of community.
