Call For Submissions

Passager (passage + passenger) is a small, independent literary press whose mission is to publish the work of older writers, encourage the imagination in the later stages of life, and create beautiful and welcoming publications.

Passager is currently seeking manuscripts of original poetry from writers 70 and older for The Henry Morgenthau III First Book Poetry Prize.

The prize was established in 2018 by the Morgenthau children to honor their father Henry Morgenthau III, who began writing poetry in his 90s. The prize is awarded every other year to a U.S. poet 70 or older who has not published a full-length book of poetry.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submission period: November 15 — January 15
  • Manuscripts should be between 50-65 pages of original poetry, in English, by one poet. There are no restrictions on the style of poetry or subject matter.
  • Authors must be 70 years or older by April 1, 2026
  • Online and hard copy submissions are accepted
  • There is a $25 entry fee

Prizes

  • $2,000 USD
  • Publication of the collection

Passager will publish the winning manuscript in a paperback edition within one year of the judge’s decision.
