WISING UP PRESS was founded in 2007 to extend our work at Universal Table promoting diversity. We use literature by contemporary writers to explore various dimensions of pluralism—immigration, illness, social justice, social inclusion and resilience, religious understanding—because of the power of narrative to help us identify safely with others who may at first seem, by appearance or circumstances or culture, very different from us. Our anthologies serve as an invitation to stand in that richer relation—empathic, musing, open to new meaning—with ourselves and with our neighbors. Our individually authored books of fiction, poetry, memoir and non-fiction do the same. Both publishers have doctorates, one in English and Creative Writing and the other in Political Science—and extensive prior professional experience as teachers, writers, and editors. Our Wising Up Editorial group is also composed of experienced writers and editors.
