Staffed by previous winners who volunteer their time and skills, WWPH is a non-profit co-operative press reflecting both the diversity and the devotion to literature of writers in the greater Washington, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia areas. Over 40 years the press has published more than 100 volumes of poetry and prose. Through a blind-judged contest open to writers living within 75 miles of DC, WWPH publishes one work of fiction (the Jean Feldman Poetry Prize) and one of fiction (The WWPH Fiction Prize) each fall. The books are edited, produced, and promoted on the slenderest of budgets ($8,000 annually) thanks to the commitment of the members of the cooperative, who juggle their volunteer work at the press with jobs, family, and writing. Our principal commitment is to discovering, encouraging, and promoting the very best of local literature.
